Get Toast talking to DishBooks
This guide walks you through connecting Toast to DishBooks, from grabbing a few codes in Toast Web to seeing your first day of sales come in. Plan on a few minutes of copy and paste.

Before you start
- Your locations are set up in DishBooks. Each Toast restaurant gets matched to one. See Set up your locations.
- You can log in to Toast Web with access to Integrations → Toast API access. If you can’t see that menu, ask whoever manages your Toast account.
- Pick your start date. This is the first day DishBooks pulls sales from. Most restaurants choose the first day of the month they’re going live.
- Open two browser tabs: one for Toast Web and one for DishBooks. You’ll copy a few codes from one to the other.
Step 1 Get your API credentials from Toast
In DishBooks, go to Settings → Integrations and click Connect on the Toast card. Keep this screen open. The same instructions are printed right below the fields.
Now, in your Toast Web tab:
- Go to Integrations → Toast API access → Manage credentials.
- Click Create new credentials and choose Standard API.
- Copy the Client ID and Client Secret and paste them into the matching fields in DishBooks.
Step 2 Set up the real-time webhook
The webhook is what tells DishBooks the moment an order changes in Toast, so your sales stay current. Still in Toast Web:
- Go to Integrations → Toast API access → Manage webhooks.
- Click + Add webhook.
- Choose order_updated for the Event category and fill in the rest of the fields. For the Webhook URL, use
https://app.dishbooks.com/webhook/toast. - Click show, copy the Secret, and paste it into Webhook Secret in DishBooks.
Don’t skip this one. DishBooks won’t save the connection without the Webhook Secret, and without the webhook new orders don’t arrive on their own. You’d have to pull each day yourself with Repoll.
Step 3 Connect and match your restaurants
Back in DishBooks, all four fields should be filled in.
-
Set Sync From to your start date. It’s pre-filled with a date 24 months back, so change it unless you want that much history.
-
Click Connect.
-
DishBooks lists every restaurant in your Toast account. Choose the DishBooks location for each one (or Ignore to skip it, or + Create new location), then click Save.
That’s it, you’re connected. The first sync usually takes a couple of minutes. If you picked a start date far in the past, give it a little longer. Your sales will show up under Sales → Daily Sales Report.
Toast questions
- I can’t find Toast API access in Toast Web.
- Your Toast login probably doesn’t have access to integrations. Ask whoever manages your Toast account to either give you access or create the credentials for you.
- Where do I find the Client Secret and webhook Secret again later?
- In Toast Web, under Integrations → Toast API access. Credentials are under Manage credentials and the webhook Secret is under Manage webhooks (click show).
- I have several Toast restaurants. Do I connect each one separately?
- No. One connection lists every restaurant Toast returns for your credentials. You match each one to its DishBooks location in Step 3.
- I opened a new restaurant in Toast.
- Go to Settings → Integrations and click Edit on the Toast card. The matching window opens again, with the new restaurant ready to match. Restaurants you already matched stay locked.
- Can I change Sync From later?
- Yes, from the same Edit screen. A new backfill from that date starts when you click Connect and save the matching window again.
- How do I know the connection is working?
- If Toast rejects your credentials, the Toast card shows Reconnect needed and the Daily Sales Report shows a banner. Click Reconnect, check the Client ID and Client Secret, and save.
- Sales from today aren’t showing up yet.
- Give it a few minutes after the first sync. If a day still looks out of date, open it on the Daily Sales Report and click Actions → Repoll, then double-check that the webhook from Step 2 is set up.
